[Usability] Form Field Validation

Hi.

I was wondering if anyone had any "Best Practice" resources for common form 
field validation formats.

For instance:

-A first name form field should contain X number of chars.
-An address form field should contain x number of chars.

etc.

Any help would be much appreciated.
