I disagree. I was confused when the launcher preferences dialog switched
from OK/Cancel to Close in Gnome 1.4 - it took me several attempts to
work out that my changes were being applied instantly. (Even if changes
are applied instantly, they may not be visible/noticable to the user: I
was trying to change the tooltip.)
The close button should be labelled 'OK' because that has the
widely-understood meaning "the settings currently displayed in the
dialog are acceptable, apply them and close the dialog". 'Close' doesn't
have clear semantics - it could mean 'Cancel' (the stock icon makes this
worse).
