Hi team,
Like every year, I think we should do a presentation at FOSDEM this year.
I didn't develop most of the new contributions of 2014 at all. Is there
somebody of the top contributors of this year going to FOSDEM and are
you willing to prepare a presentation and show your work in Brussels?
I'm thinking Carlos or Martyn. Letting somebody like Adrien or Roberto
talk about how it feels like contributing nice features to Tracker is
also ok for me.
A quick glance at the feature branches since passive-extraction gives
us this really awesome list of features having been worked on the last
six months:
updated-gtester - Martyn
use-libmediaart - Martyn (maybe demo libmediaart?)
tracker-tag-and-operator-fix - Martyn
subtree-crawling - Carlos (big)
sparql-ontology-tree - Martyn
rss-update - Roberto Guido
thunderbird-24 - Adrien
rss-update - Roberto Guido
prioritized-crawling - Carlos
pdf-extractor-no-forks - Martyn
new-userguides-miner - Martyn (a)
new-app-miner - Martyn (b) (a and b are big)
make-decorator-errors-public - Martyn
jolla-upstreaming - Philip (more will come starting August)
functional-test-fixes-bug-696172 - Martyn
external-crawler - Martyn (very recent, huge and sounds awesome)
crash-aware-extractor - Carlos (very recent, sounds awesome)
api-cleanup - Carlos
Perhaps it's good to let somebody else do a full own presentation this
year? How about that external-crawler stuff? Maybe the
crash-aware-extractor.
I remember that Carlos did the presentation together with me and that
Carlos showed the passive-extraction work. If nobody sacrifices
himself (all code-feature contributors are guys this year), then like
last year I can start the presentation and let the top contributor of
last few months show the latest stuff happening in the project. I
really hope to get at least one volunteer :-)!
I could also and the end talk about crazy ideas that we have. We
talked about companies using Tracker last year. Maybe we can mention
new companies already? Perhaps if they agree, we should? - first ask this
ps. Jolla work on Tracker resumes in August. That means I will be
fixing bugs and working on certain features in the coming weekends.
Kind regards,
Philip

We now invite proposals for main track presentations and developer rooms.
<br>
<br>
FOSDEM offers open source developers a place to meet, share ideas and
collaborate. Renowned for being highly developer-oriented, the event
brings together some 5000+ geeks from all over the world.
<br>
<br>
The fifteenth edition will take place on Saturday 31 January and
Sunday 1 February 2015 at the usual location: ULB Campus Solbosch in
Brussels.
<br>
<br>
We now invite proposals for main track presentations and developer rooms.
<br>
<br>
Previous editions have featured tracks centered around security,
operating system development, community building, and many other
topics. Presentations are expected to be 50 minutes long and should
cater to a varied technical audience. The conference covers travel
expenses and arranges accommodation for accepted main track speakers.
<br>
<br>
Developer rooms are assigned to self-organising groups to work
together on open source projects, to discuss topics relevant to a
broader subset of the community, etc. Content may be scheduled in any
format, subject to approval. Popular formats include presentation
tracks, hacking sessions and panel discussions. Proposals involving
collaboration across project or domain boundaries are strongly encouraged.
<br>
<br>
Proposals for main track presentations should be submitted using
Pentabarf:

style="color:#2d8cd7;text-decoration:none;">https://penta.fosdem.org/submission/</a>
<br>
<br>
Developer room proposals should be emailed to devrooms fosdem org and
be as detailed as possible. In particular, coordinators should
indicate their affinity with the topic being proposed and provide a
rough idea of the content they plan to schedule.
