Hi,

The idea was to avoid the link to "thumbnails" in the database,
because it was generated information (i.e. md5(nie:url))... so
probably that was the reason to avoid those classes.

For file thumbnails yes, that makes sense

The only problem with those icons is that you could have more than 1
for an entity, and then you need some way to choose. E.G. avatar for a
person from FB and gmail.

Well for IM we had predicates like imAvatar if I remember correctly, so we did have a link between a resource and an avatar in the DB. Then, in the N9 in the contacts settings you can choose your "preferred avatar provider", I don't remember the logic in contactsd to get consistent results if it's not defined.

But about the ontologies, I don't see any problem importing those
classes and properties. Let us review the changes before commit :)

One potential issue would be that imAvatar would in a way be a sub-property of nao:hasSymbol, but not sure if this kind of ontology changes would be supported... Or if it even makes sense to have this "hierarchy".

Ivan

Hi,

Matthew (in CC) was asking me why nao:Symbol and its related predicates are missing from our NAO version... I don't have a real answer for that, would it be simply that we imported it before those were added upstream? Matthew
would need those to link IM services to their icon (in the N9 it was
hardcoded in the contacts UI iirc, less than ideal), and they could be
useful in other cases as well, for example associating an icon to a tag etc.

Do you think importing those into our version of NAO would be an issue? If
not, I could try to cook a patch for that.
