Sadly a lot of the performance improvements and things I mentioned in my response are only available in 0.14.x.

I would highly suggest you upgrade if you can to take advantage of these improvements.

As for a link, I don't think there is any help available currently. IT's quite straight forward though, the rules files are processed in order (like /etc/init.d/ files IIRC) and explain which mime types can be handled by which modules. By omitting those from installations, you can control which extracts are used and which are not.
