Re: [Tracker] unity dash lens

Hi,
thanks for your replies Martyn and Karl.

Seems to me that desktop search is missing from ubuntu, but present in macos/windows, so this should be of interest for the unity devs.

I especially like the idea of combining zeitgeist and tracker combined to improve relevance of tracker results.

I havent looked but ubuntu 12.10 is still missing desktop search?

See https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/646724/comments/71

As you will see, code is out there though it has fallen behind updates
to Unity's api. However with a bit of hacking compilation is possible.

The problem is that the Ubuntu folks don't see Tracker as a first class
citizen (it is in 'universe' rather than 'main') and so there is little
impetus for a developer to sort it out. At the tracker end, the same
resource problem applies as Martyn says.

So it needs someone in the middle to invest time and be prepared to
maintain it.
