Less efficiently yes at high volume.
The idea is that you don't encapsulate all the information from a
file descriptor over DBus, you just read from the file directly. This
improves performance. I don't have any numbers here to back it up
though.

Those were on a very specific benchmark though, for Tracker the
performance gains might be slower.
