It would be really handy for me if there was a configuration option for
Tracker that let you change the Tracker database location for a
particular folder or mount point (ie, all normal folders were indexed in
the normal place, but all documents in /mount/shared were tagged/indexed
in /mount/shared/.Tracker). I assume that this is not currently possible?
You can set it by setting the XDG directory locations, but that's not
unique to Tracker, all applications (generally) around GNOME should be
using these locations. For more information about the ~/.cache and
~/.local/share directories we use, see:

In particular XDG_CACHE_HOME and XDG_DATA_HOME
