Thanks all, that's very helpful.

Another option is to put all your files in a folder (visible to all
users) and let tracker index it per-user. In that case each user will
have its own databases. Then the information in the database but not
in the files (E.g. tags added by the user) won't be shared.
It would be really handy for me if there was a configuration option for
Tracker that let you change the Tracker database location for a
particular folder or mount point (ie, all normal folders were indexed in
the normal place, but all documents in /mount/shared were tagged/indexed
in /mount/shared/.Tracker). I assume that this is not currently possible?
Can the PDF extractor OCR PDF scans that are not already OCRed? It seems
No. If the PDF stores a scanned image of some text, we can't extract
that. IT's also quite uncommon.
Thanks. That's interesting, as it is actually something that I come
across a lot. I've always scanned anything multi-page as PDFs (TIFs are
quite hard to work with) and so do all of my clients. Also, our
electronic fax system converts all incoming faxes to PDFs (with each
page a simple JPG scan of the page).

Aaron
