Is there a later stable version than Tracker 0.8.17 in the UNSTABLE version repository?
Ubuntu 10.04 Gnome: System>Preferences>Search and indexing>Indexing Preferences>Locations tab.
Recursively indexed: /home/johnb/Desktop Non-Recursively indexed: /home/johnb/On the "Indexing" tab i have checked the box "Monitor file and directory changes" Am i right in thinking that the effect of these settings together is to index changes only on "Desktop" and not index changes to directories, files and folders "/home /johnb"?
johnb johnb-desktop:~$ /usr/libexec/tracker-extract-f /home/johnb/Desktop/qpw.jpg
bash: /usr/libexec/tracker-extract-f : No such file or directoryNow that result i dont get. tracker-extract cant find my image file "qpw.jpg"even though i can see it right there on my desktop? =-O

OK the old add repository and GPG keys and update procedures you suggested worked just fine. Many thanks Guys. :-D Meta Tracker Gui 0.8.17-1ubuntu0.10.04.1~ppa1 installed and working.Super-old version of Tracker in the stable repo :-/ We're now in the stable 0.12 series. We should update that one of these days.I have an image called qpw.jpg on my desktop. :-) Months ago ,using the application Digikam i entered and saved "John Bestevaar" into the XMP Dublin Core metadata "Creator" field. of this image. To check that my metadata "John Bestevaar" is actually in my image qpw.jpg and is actually available to other applications, i used the "Fxif" extension to Firefox to display it. OK. With Tracker Gui i can find this image by its name qpw.jpg but when i enter my name in the search box John Bestevaar there is no result. Tracker does not find qpw.jpg. Surprised ! Did i miss something? =-O So now i am unsure whether my install of Tracker is indexing and or searching my metadata. Is there some form of testing procedure or test data? Should i check for missing files, packages?Launch "tracker-preferences" and check which are the paths being monitored. you can also run "/usr/libexec/tracker-extract -f /path/to/the/file" to check which metadata we extract. BTW, if you send your questions to tracker-list gnome org after being registered in the mailing list, we can reply there and let everyone else with the same issues how to solve them :-) Check: http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/tracker-list Cheers,
