I think there is some potential. A quick example, PM stores mime-type
data into tracker-store. Abiword requires a plugin to read
document/something mime-type and using tracker can find the pkg
If you try to open a multimedia file and you do not have the GStreamer
plugins for it, PackageKit can try to find the right package for you
if you have the necessary repositories configured. Same happens for
fonts.
Yes, even if the current implementation is sub-optimal (Richard's words).
Anyway, it's not just the mime-type thing.
