Well, this is obviously only a minimum-required version. I currently
use autoconf 2.61.
IIRC we added this minimum required version, because in 2.59c some gnu
standard dirs, like datadir or docdir got added/redefined.
That's why I initially thought, that lowering it to 2.59 might be problematic.
It could be though, that my memory doesn't serve me well ;-)
