the google one is not open source (so will not be shipped by open source
distros), lacks desktop integration and has no tagging/extensible
metadata so I dont think its a stright swap for tracker yet. (it has no
Evo support either nor XESAM support)

I shall be punking Google to implement xesam. I hope you don't mind competition :-) Although I doubt that they will engage, they might go as far as to expose enough API for someone to create a wrapper.
