The files in po/POTFILES.in are for the gettext translation system,
where intltool extracts the strings from the source files, and the
translation itself is done in the po files, which are then for speed
reasons converted to a binary *.gmo format.

*.desktop files are translated differently afaik. For *.desktop files
you add the translation directly into the file itself.
I can't see the need, why tracker-search-tool.desktop.in should be
added to POTFILES.in.

Can you please elaborate?
