Hello to all
Apologies for suddenly entering a conversation mid thread and doubly
so as this is my
first posting to the list, thus breaching two of the most important rules of
listiquette in one go.
That wasn't a boast either, i do apologise and will do the intro thing
in another post
real soonish.
The thing is that i reckon the icons used by a tool/app _are_
important in deciding just
how popular any given newish app becomes - which is sad given that it
shd be the tool's
usability and performance which mostly decides this - but folk being
what they are look
and feel get to be king and queen of this domain.
I used popular in the sense of usage/uptake by numbers of normal
users, the speed and ease
of that adoption and then the stickability, once they are using it
they stay with it, and
*not* in the sense of much chattered about by the dev community with
lots of blog posts &c
but no real market share(as they say.)
Oh shit - please don't think, even for an instance, that i'm placing
Tracker in that latter
catagory, no way!
Onwards then:

Now _that_ is more like it
~ it states the obvious in a familiar way
~ ie it's using symbols people will "recognise" the meaning / intention of
straight away
~ no head scratching
~ no "what the ___?"
~ just an "ah yeah right, super sleuth dude, a tracker downer of lost
and missing things"
Plus it looks good!
It's clean & clear visually - no clutter or confusion, no mixed messages.
I sure as hell hope that this icon is available to the Tracker project.
It would be a real good thing if it were to become the official
Tracker icon - or the
strongly preferred first choice/default icon if there is no "official" branding.
I shd point out that i have no connections to or with the
people/person who designed it
in any way shape or form. I'm totally ignorant in that respect, as i
am re any/all the
other people on this list, whom i also know only thru their presence t/here.
thanks thats very nice. Will add shortly
