I'm sorry for the noise, xdg-utils is actually available in Fedora
Extras. Should have double-checked earlier ;).
3 major distros (Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora) have xdg-utils in their
official repositories. But then, considering that there's work to get
it to run on Dapper (Ubuntu 6.06) which doesn't have xdg-utils, maybe
this patch will have to wait for a year or so. For now, the note in
the README should suffice.
