Hi Jamie,

Hi michael,

      I was recently reading parts of both tracker & beagle, for various
reasons. As part of that I was looking at the io priority code:

      tracker/src/trackerd/tracker-ioprio.c:

      it bears the legend:

/* Tracker - indexer and metadata database engine
 * Copyright (C) 2006, Mr Jamie McCracken (jamiemcc gnome org)
 *
 * This library is free software; you can redistribute it and/or
 * modify it under the terms of the GNU General Public
      ...

      etc.

      However reading the code, I was interested to note that it bears an
uncanny similarity to:

      beagle/glue/ioprio-glue.c

      which bears the legend:

/*
 * ioprio-glue.c - I/O priority wrappers for the big dog
 *
 * Robert Love        <rml novell com>
 *
 * Copyright (C) 2005 Novell, Inc.
..
 * The above copyright notice and this permission notice shall be included in
 * all copies or substantial portions of the Software.

      I was wondering - are these derived from a 3rd public domain source ?
or did you independently arrive at the same code ? or is this a simple
ommission ? or did Robert Love rip you off ? ;-)

No I ripped the code from beagle :)

It was an honest omission so i will update the copyright

      Also; looking at this space - it seems to me that one of the places
where beagle and tracker should be working together is on a common
'libbeagle' (suitably renamed I guess 'libsearch' ?) and common set of
hooks for things like Firefox that would make the choice of underlying
search technology moot (at least for the application). Does that make
sense ? and/or would you help out with that ?

thats what Xesam is for - http://xesam.org/main

We will be implementing support for it over xmas - I think beagle
already has support for most of it

later iterations of xesam will cover common extractors and crawlers

there is an xesam ml on freedesktop and irc on #xesam on freenode
