the long term plan is to replace it as tracker needs to be really 
lightweight (I would like it to be usable for OLPC and perhaps other 
embedded devices)

I will look at how much work is involved tonight and if I can knock it 
up in a couple of hours I will replace it (otherwise it stays for the 
time being).

If anyone else wants to work on this then let me know.
