Hi,
The Tracker deb was uninstallable in Sid because of a dependency of
libpoppler1-glib which is only available in experimental. A discussion
on debian-release mailing concluded that poppler 0.5.x won't be
included in Etch due to time constraints since the change required a
transition due to an ABI change. What I did however was force
installation of the Tracker debs, which of course breaks my system's
package management system. tracker-search-tool does work, but does not
index everything -- same with the other complaints with replied to
Jamie's announcement. I doubt if this is related to the fact that I
didn't have libpoppler1-glib installed, but instead the older
libpoppler0c2-glib (0.4.5) debian package in Sid.
Could you please downgrade the dependency so that users of the next
Debian release (Etch) could use it without breaking their systems.
I'll try again with the libpoppler1-glib dependency just to verify if
the refusal to index everything remains.
Thanks for providing those debs.
Poppler 0.5.x is required by Tracker but perhaps it is possible to
downgrade the required version. I did not look at the old API from
Poppler 0.4.x.
Since PDF metadata extraction depends on Poppler, you cannot obtain
metadata without Poppler being installed...
So, two options:
1/ try to use old Poppler API from 0.4.x versions if it is possible;
2/ do not build Tracker debian packages with PDF support.
And it seems that debian packages are missing dependencies on SQlite3
and QDBM...
Laurent.
