Hello all,

I was impressed by the descriptions of tracker (compared to beagle which I have some reservations about) and decided to try it out on an Ubuntu Dapper PC. I installed tracker 0.0.4 on Ubuntu Dapper (with all updates installed) using the following:
   sudo apt-get install libextractor1c2a
   cd /var/cache/apt/archives
sudo wget -nd http://www.gnome.org/~jamiemcc/tracker/DEB/tracker_0.0.4_i386.deb
   sudo dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/tracker_0.0.4_i386.deb

But when I typed: "trackerd" it starts up the indexing process and just sits there at "Extracting Metadata for file /home/.../Examples with mime unknown" for a very long time >15 minutes) so I aborted it.
The log shows it cannot connect to dbus session bus - enusre this is
started beforehand (it should be in .xsession so its auto started on x
login)
please make sure dbus is fully operational on your system otherwise
tracker will foul up. (use dbus-monitor to make sure tracker can
communicate wiht it)
