Well if the output of the command "rpm -qa" (e.g) is put in the xst xml 
format it's all.  No problem with version checking (rpm 3 or 4) and such.  I 
don't know the commands for a deb package, but I assume there will be a 
similar one.  I've used the package query command on sun, but I don't 
remember it anymore.  Well it would be up to the backend, to determine the 
system it's running on and which package query command to execute.
