Thanks, but this wasn't sufficient. I get a compile error
../src/main.vala:274.9-274.28: error: The name `from_stream' does not exist in the context of 
`GExiv2.Metadata'
        metadata.from_stream (file.read());
        ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Compilation failed: 1 error(s), 0 warning(s)

I will try to look into it later this week, but if you have an idea, let
me know.
