Thanks for the explanation, Stef. I was more accustomed to Private Keys in the sense of an SSH public/private key, and I didn't understand how creating a private key would help me get a certificate.

This creates a certificate request that can be used to get a certificate
from an enterprise certificate authority, or Web CA.

Usually one sends the request file to the authority (either via their
website or other means) and one gets back a certificate, after they
verify ones identity.
