digits, although pinkies are most vulnerable.

Thumbs are more robust than other fingers, but you can damage them.
Now tablets and smart phones are already greatly popular, and this
problem will be common, too. (D M German has foreseen the future.)
I wrote a "handy modifier hack" (for Linux only) which allows you to
reduce use of pinkies in keyboard in typical cases. The above sentence
is in its README. I haven't got time to advertise it yet, but if
