make install after configure --prefix=myprefix

Dear sawfish hackers,

I'm trying to build the latest sawfish from sources (but using the current ubuntu librep/rep-gtk) and install it into my ~/.local hierarchy. Everything works great up until here:

/usr/lib/rep/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/install-aliases -c . /home/x/.local/libexec/sawfish/1.3.4/x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu

when it suddenly does this:

/usr/lib/rep/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/libtool --tag CC --mode=install /usr/bin/install -c client.la /usr/lib/rep/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/sawfish/ /usr/bin/install -c .libs/client.so /usr/lib/rep/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/sawfish/client.so /usr/bin/install: cannot remove `/usr/lib/rep/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/sawfish/client.so': Permission denied
make[1]: *** [install] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/x/src/sawfish-1.3.4/src'
make: *** [install] Error 1

Is this a bug or does it follow some sort of reasoning regarding rep requirements?

Sincerely,

Rafal Kolanski.
