root menu pop-up problem with viewports

Hi there,

I just ugraded to sawfish 1.3, downloaded the patch to
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89139 so that the root menu
would pop-up correctly and voila, everything works fine .... until I
realized that in this version viewports are not enabled by default so
I added

(define-special-variable viewport-dimensions '(2 . 2)
    "Size of each virtual workspace.")

to my .sawfishrc. After this the good old root menu pop-up problem
reappeared. Sometimes clicking the middle button doesn't pop up the
root menu. If I stayed in one viewport everything was still okay, but
moving back and forth between viewports makes the middle button not
bring up the menu. This phenomena doesn't always happen and only after
some time, just as described in
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89139.

Any clues?
