I first recompiled everything without stripping binaries and got the
following trace. Does this help? I did notice that most distro packages
have been stripped, so the trace could just as well be useless...

Yeah, bit hard without symbols, but looking at the code it looks like
the GIO network proxy code is hitting some assertion or something like
that. Is there a message on the console before the crash (when not
running in gdb)?
Okay, forget it, nothing appears to be wrong after all, but I don't know
what went wrong where. I first recompiled glib2 without stripping
binaries, and lo and behold, rygel starts working?! For good measure, I
then recompiled glib2 _with_ stripped binaries, again, no problems.
Finally, I reinstalled glib2 from the original Slackware repositories,
still no problem. Something in my installation must have been borked, I
don't know what. Anyway, I have enjoyed controlling my music from phone
and tablet today, thanks very much, team Rygel! And sorry for the mix-up.
