http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/rhythmbox-develOh, now I know what you meant. You mean the "Track", "Album", etc. columns. Sorry for misreading. As far as I can tell, the reason sorting doesn't work on playlists is because some people want their
playlists in a specified order, and sorting the list might kill that. But I'm not a developer or designer, so I can't really speak for them.
