I've just tested it on a svn compiled rhythmbox and if this plugin is 
enabled, the sound is terribly scratched.

I did go deeper to find the cause, also because I remember that there is 
a very cool mokup and patch (that however I think it's a bit obsolete 
now) on bugzilla ( http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=76522)
