I don't think there is anyway you can do that currently.  When you move
and change things around, the metadata for that is gone as well for that
particular area.

I think in order to fix it you would have to store the md5 sum or equivalent
in the database and if it finds a match it could update the location.  It's
somewhat vague, but I'm simply saying that we need to probably take the 
extra step to check if we've seen the file before.  A problem arises if you
have duplicate files with different names. (eg two files with same md5 sum
but different filenames and locations)

That's using the current stuff.

Ideally, an indexing engine could keep track for you.  But we don't have
that.
