Hi all,
If it's not possible to be 100% correct on compilation detection, maybe RB could stick to a manually set boolean stored in the DB (as done by iTunes). Then let a plugin offer a proper UI to specify some empirical rules and present the results (the "guessed" compilations) in a "virtual" source (like the existing Missing Files source). From here the user could select and validate/invalidate the correct ones.

Hi all,
Making rhythmbox smart enough to detect compilations is probably not
possible. It is quite easy to implement grouping of compilations ala
itunes, by letting the user tag what is and what isn't a compilation.
This is actually very quick to do -
In the browser's album view, click on an album that is a compilation,
select all the songs, right click on the selection and check the "[]
is part of compilation" box, and hit ok.
iTunes will then show those songs as if the artist is 'compilation'.
This is saved in the itunes xml database, not in the id3 tag. It would
be much better if this could stored in the id3 tag.
