No, not really, all it does is allow storing and saving multivalue VCard
attributes in the google backend, this is already quite possible in the
normal local backend.

I'm running the patch here and evolution seems to work fine, I also
tested the linking case that didn't work in gnome-contacts, and now it
does work.
