Mmmh, wouldn't this be as “easy” as copying some of the .c files from
the “nss_files” files from (e)glibc and modifying the paths they access
in the source?
 
Are we willing to do this? It looks cleaner to me than patching eglibc,
maybe I can step in and package it so we can add it as a component for
gnome-ostree.
