Samuel Thibault spake thusly:
On each power outage they have been struggling at worse for a couple of
days, not more.
Fair enough, but there was another problem this week that has just been
resolved within the past 24 hours. Was this a separate incident? Another
power outage? That would in fact total three power outages in less than
three months, one of which caused probably 5 days of service
interruption, which is a pretty bad record for any server. If my VPS
provider had anywhere near close to this type of downtime, I would most
definitely look at the alternatives and start filing tickets to get
credit for the rather dismal uptime. I do understand that Tuxfamily is
probably on dedicated hardware rather than on a VPS that has a 99.9%
uptime guarantee, but dedicated hardware is in many cases said to be
more stable ... just so long as the lights stay on. These frequent
outages that last longer than a UPS can handle don't bode well for any
hardware, especially not hardware that is being used to host entire free
and open source projects. Yes, I do understand that the people running
Tuxfamily are said to be good and trustworthy people. But it's the power
company that causes the concern here, not the people behind the site and
services. Good and trustworthy people can't do their work when
circumstances beyond their control keep flipping the light switch and
turning off their computers.
