Re: [orca-list] keyboard loses focus after logging in

I agree, disabling Braille is not a solution.  I tried disabling it in the ORCA preferences and that didn't fix the problem, so I'm not sure what method he used to disable Braille.

Also, is there a bug filed on Marco?  Can you point us to a link?

Thanks. This is unfortunately not a solution for me because I use braille. Do you think that Marco could be replaced by some different manager?

I've found a partial fix

It's simply solved by disabling Braille in Orca, and is a known bug with Marco but a low priority for Marco to fix, going by the comments I got when discussing the issue with someone who uses Mate full time. That sorted the issue down from it locks up to it very rarely locks up

I think it is easy to reproduce just by pressing control-w to close Chromium at least on my system.

Hello,

hmm, yes, that might be it. I have recently encountered that and indeed, launching Orca preferences fixed the problem for me - I mean the keyboard focus got back.

Should I try to create another debug file?

It sounds like the problem where the Marco process gets hung.  I sent a debug.out to Jonie and brought it up on the Debian list, but nobody has an answer for it.  You can presss insert-space to bring up the ORCA menu and wait a few seconds and it may clear. You can also kill the Marco process from a console session.  Once I kill the Marco process the ORCA session will start talking again.

I have an update. I found out that it happens probably also on Fedora 35, Orca from master, Mate desktop.

And I found out that if I press some Orca shortcuts, such as orca+t to announce time, it works. But if I try to e.g. restart orca, alt+tab or something else, it does not work.

Hello,

this is a problem which bothers me already for some time. It is probably not Orca related, but maybe some knowledgeable person here can help me.

The problem is that in some situations my system gets into a state when any key combinations just do not work, like if they were going into a /dev/null. I have to use the mouse, click somewhere on the screen and everything gets OK again. Orca can't be restarted... just nothing works.

It happens in two situations:

1. after logging into the desktop, but just sometimes

2. After exiting a QT application such as VLC or KeepassXC.

System: Arch Linux, Orca from master, Mate desktop

It can't be reproduced reliably.

Anyone has an idea what could it be?

Thank you,

Vojta
