Hey Chris,
Wow, that would be something!
Usually when folks complain about the inaccessibility of KDE, I tend to joke that since the environment is based on QT, inaccessibility is a feature, not a bug. XD
But it would definitely be great to change that, KDE seems to have a creative and enthusiastic community, so if accessibility gets amoung their fundamental principles, it could benefit us significantly.
One problem I recognized with KDE some time ago was, that Orca didn't work out of the box neither in their own distro nor Kubuntu.
Has this already been addressed? It seems like one of the easier tasks, that could improve the user experience, if the installer is accessible.
Of course, it is possible to install the environment to another
distro like Ubuntu Mate or Gnome, but it's slightly messy and
doesn't even work properly all the time, I mean, the process in
general, desktop environment specific distros are usually best
tuned for what they ship.
Best regards
Rastislav
Howdy List,
for most time i was the lone ranger in KDEs accessibility team. But this changed now. I recognized a growing interest of KDE developers. This interest was the ability to form a brand new accessibility team.Details see here:
If you are interested in helping ( documentation, development, paying bills or anything else) let me know.
There is also already a proposal to vote accessibility to one of tree KDE goals. The goals define the overall roadmap in what areas KDE concentrate development forces the next three years. See here:
KDE changed a lot over the last year. Many accessibility related issues where fixed, but still a long way to go… but we move.
Cheers chrys
