Hi,
the last time I tried installing via TB's addon search, all that happened was TB downloading the XPI file, which I later needed to install myself.
I don't know whether this is the expected behavior, or I did something wrong, but yeah.
As for from file installation, when you have the XPi file downloaded, all you need to do is to navigate to menu Tools/Plugins, click on Options for all plugins button and select Install from file.
Then you select the file of the plugin.
Now, you need to confirm a Thunderbird dialog asking you whether you want to add the addon to Thunderbird.
In fact, this might've popped up when you clicked the Add to Thunderbird link, I recommend checking that out.
Unfortunately, the only way to work with this dialog I'm aware of is using OCRDesktop:
https://github.com/chrys87/ocrdesktop
You click on the Add button, and the installation is done.
Best regards
Rastislav
May I ask how to install these addon?
Here's what I've tried:
- Go to Tools > AddONs and Themes
- On AddOn filter, enter "_expression_ Search"
- Find _expression_ Search and klik link "Add to Thunderbird"
I do not hear any feedback to know whether the installation proceed or not.
Could you please advice on how to install these plugin and how to access it when it is installed?
FYI: I'm on TB 91
Best Regards

Hi, as for standard Thunderbird search... Go to menu View, Tool panels and make sure the item Quick filter is checked. Note that the captions of the menu items may be different, I'm translating them from my native language. Then, the filter field you want to use is between the folder tree and message list. You can type your search phrase there and the message list will get filtered in real time. When you clear the field, everything will be back to normal. For searches of multiple folders or more complex searches, use Ctrl+Shift+F. Note that this is a standalone dialog, where you need to set up the search parameters and the results will get displayed in the same window. Now, what I actually use. Thunderbird has a fantastic addon called _expression_ search NG: https://github.com/opto/_expression_-Search-NG It's the most powerful mail search tool I've ever seen. In a search bar as simple as the one of the quick filter, you can do searches even more powerful than the search window offers. For example, say you want to filter out all messages from John. All you need to do here is to write: f:John And you have the results (f stands for "from"). or say you want to filter out all factures from a food delivery service for a particular food in a specified month. You can write: f:service b:food d:2022/01 a:yes (f stands for from, b body, d date and a attachment, this specific example searches for all mails from service containing keyword food, having an attachment and being send on January 2022). For more information see the repository readme, much more is possible with this awesome addon.
