If I remember correctly, there was a bug some time ago that prevented 
Orca from functioning at the Gdm log-in. However, it has long since been 
fixed. So, yes, the upgrade is the solution.

Running obscure Linux distributions that many of us have probably never 
heard of carries risks, of which this is a good example. If you want to 
do that, it's fine, of course, but the community support won't be as 
strong as for more widely used distributions.
