It may be overkill for what you're trying to do, but I run NextCloud,
which is easy to install and includes a fairly good calendar. There are
a couple of good CalDAV/CardDAV applications on F-Droid that work for me
to get my NextCloud calendar and contacts to sync with my phone.
Evolution also works with CalDAV servers, and I believe Thunderbird now
can without an extension as well, though I haven't tried it yet.
