I don't know about writing it to a flash drive, but the current
version of Knoppix offers both CD and DVD sized ISOs, and the last
time I tried installing to hard disc from a DVD copy, it required a
2GB swap partition and a ReiserFS root partition with 13 GB of free
space, though best I can tell, the install to hard drive option has
been removed from the most recent version.
Also, getting Knoppix to start up in Adriane mode by default requires
either editing a config file in the iso before burning or creating a
knoppix Flash drive and editing the config file afterward... I don't
think this dinosaur of a desktop I'm typing on supports booting from
USB, and as far as I know, the only way to edit the iso from the
command line is mount it, copy the contents to a direcory on a
read-write filesystem, make the edit, and then compile a new iso,
which is rather annoying since it's a change of a single word in a
single text file.
Also, I'm pretty sure Orca is among the things pruned for the CD edition.
