Re: [orca-list] Chrome makes the Mate desktop to crash

Hello again,

Just to let you know with Chrome 85 and Orca 3.38.0, I still don't reproduce the issue.

Are you able to reproduce it with Orca 3.38.0? Could you please try with Chrome instead of Chromium?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Arkadiusz,

Could you please check if it's the same with Chrome Unstable? Currently it's version 87.0.4263.3-1 on my Debian.

It's often a good idea to test if the problem you encounter exist on latest development version. If not, we just have to wait until the release of 87 to see it fixed on stable version.

Thanks in advance.

Yep, you come back to the desktop, but do the same with another window opened too. E.g. Open pidgin or something, then open chromium, I'm using 85.0 from archlinux repository, I don't remember community or extra, orca 3.39.1-pre from e0a7cdc5d54b240de66da404d5323fc5e461b051  archlinux, mate 1.24.1 and I have opened some window, then I'm closing last card in chromium by ctrl+w and when chromium exits i'm e.g. pressing alt+tab or ctrl+alt+right to switch between workstation then mate freezes.

Hello Kyle and all,

Thanks for your message.

Unfortunately, I don't reproduce the issue under Debian Testing.

Could you please give me some more informations ?
  • Are you using Chrome or Chromium?
  • What version and channel of Chrome are you using?
  • What version of Orca are you using?
  • Does it happen with Chrome stable or just unstable ?
  • Which argument do you use on launching Chrome ? I've use "--force-renderer-accessibility --enable-caret-browsing"
  • Where do you start Chrome from the desktop ? Is it the same if you launch it from the run dialog  (Alt + F2)?
  • What is your window manager ? Is it Marco ?
  • Could you please try to determine which upgrade causes the issue ?

What steps do you follow, I followed the following one :

  • With Orca running and with the window manager Marco
  • Launch from the desktop Chrome Unstable with "--force-renderer-accessibility --enable-caret-browsing" on a fresh profile
  • Wait the loading of the Chrome default page then press control + w

Result:

I go back to the desktop.

Thanks in advance.

The only way I have been able to reproduce the problem so far has been to close all Chrome browser tabs. My work-around so far seems to be to turn off Orca, then close my Chrome browser and restart Orca. Since this issue for me seems to happen all the time when I close Chrome, this work-around seems successful, though I need to test it more. In any case, I hope it helps.
