Re: [orca-list] eBook readers that work with Orca

Hello,

On further reflection, considering the number of audio packages that would be installed if I went ahead with
the installation of ebok-speaker
I think that this application must be self-voicing and does not use the facilities of the screenreader. It
therefore does not support Braille.

I wonder why people make self-voicing applications, instead of just making them screenreader friendly.

Hello,

Does ebook-speaker work with Braille? I am deaf-blind. When I typed apt install ebok-speaker it listed a
lot of audio libraries which I will never use.

Thanks,
John

Hello John,
ebook-speaker.

In Bullseye you get version 5.4.0. That's good enough however Jos Lemeens just released version 5.5.2.

You can get it directly from his website http://jlemmens.nl/

Download link of the Debian binary package:
http://www.jlemmens.nl/homepage/ebook-speaker_5.5.2-1_amd64.deb
Installation:
dpkg -i ebook-speaker_5.5.2-1_amd64.deb

Caveat: I don't know how it plays with orca and a Braille device.

Anyway Jos is nice guy, I'm sure he will help you if need be:

Happy reading!

I have Debian Bullseye, Mate and the latest release of Orca that is available on Debian. What ebook
