Re: [orca-list] Reworked presentation of native word navigation

Hi Joanie,

I discribe 2 cases below but if it is not what your change is about, just forget this mail.

👍 😉

Case 1
Ubuntu 20.04 in dutch
With Orca master and espeak set punctuation to 'All'.
Start Gedit or Pluma.
type the signs 'Left brace' and 'Right brace' divided by a space.
{ }
With Ctrl+Left/Right
Orca says correct 'Linker accolade' and 'rechter accolade'. Also Arrow-Left/Right speaks correctly.

But with Arrow Up/Down to read by line Orca says 'vierkante haak' 'vierkante haak sluiten'. Those are the Dutch names for 'Left bracket' and 'Right bracket'.

Case 2
Ubuntu 20.04 in Dutch
With Orca master and espeak set punctuation to 'All'.
Start Gedit or Pluma.
type the signs 'Left bracket' and 'Right bracket' divided by a space.
[ ]
With Ctrl+Left/Right
and also Arrow-Left/Right, Orca says 'linker haakje' and 'rechter haakje'.
Those are the Dutch names for 'Left parenthesis' and 'Right parenthesis'.
But with Arrow Up/Down to read by line, Orca says correctly 'Left bracket 'Right bracket', however not the Dutch words 'Vierkante haak' , 'Vierkante haak sluiten'.

Hey all.

I just landed a change in Orca master which is designed to improve what
Orca says when you use native app navigation by word. In other words,
when you press Ctrl+Left/Right *and* Orca is not controlling the caret.
So that means Gedit/Pluma, Firefox and Chromium in focus mode, etc. The
changes should not impact browse mode nor LibreOffice.

The problem I was/am trying to address is what happens when you're
navigating by word around punctuation and other symbols. In those
instances, where the app moves you when you press Ctrl+Left/Right
doesn't match what ATK/AT-SPI2 reports for the word at your new
location. This mismatch can cause Orca to repeat some parts of the
"word" or not speak other parts. Hopefully that's better now in Orca
master.

Please give it a spin and let me know what you think.

Thanks!
