Hello,

I can normally switch Espeak variants. I have Debian 10 Buster. Try to 
edit the file /etc/speech-dispatcher/modules/espeak-ng.conf
and edit espeak listvoice variants =0 give to 1 and you will see Espeak 
variants and you can switch them too. It works on Hypra too.
