I feel Ubuntu mate is the best choice right now.
it is fast, very stable with accessibility and also very easy to use for even beginners.
I may say it might not look the most attractive UI to a sighted eye.
That may or may not matter depending on what you are doing and what is your work profile.
But all in all it is a great choice for sure.
I use Ubuntu Mate all day, every day at work. Very nice.
But I am a little disturbed that you couldn't get your first choice, Debian, to install. Maybe we can help you with that if you're interested.
