Re: [orca-list] When backspacing, object replace character is heard (final email of the night, promise!!)

I can confirm what Andy is stating, but theoretically this could happen in other cases. The problem is that an entire object is being deleted, so the event we're getting is for the single embedded object character. Normally we get events with the deleted text so we can present that.

I will see if I can address this problem by getting the text of the about-to-be-deleted object. If it doesn't work reliably, we'll need to get a change made in the browsers.

Hi,

Partially confirmed. When I backspace over the characters and newlines, only the blank lines produce the object replacement character. Otherwise, Orca speaks the deleted characters.

Ubuntu 20.04, Orca master, Google Chrome unstable.

    Hello,

When backspacing, the phrase "object replacement character" is
verbalized by Orca. This is in Chrome, when in the Gmail compose
editor, with Orca Master. To reproduce, do the following:
    1. In Chrome with Orca running, navigate to gmail.com <http://gmail.com>
    2. Press c to compose a new message.
    3. Tab to the message body field.
    4. Type "hello" and press enter twice.
    5. Press backspace to erase the characters typed.

Expected: The characters are verbalized by Orca.

Actual: The phrase "object replacement character" is heard.
