Hi,
Have also a look into /boot/config.txt
There is an option to force hdmi if no display was detected.
I don't need the dummy driver this way.

On Fedora, the package is xorg-x11-drv-dummy. You'll have to find it under
Raspbian or whatever you're running.

I am using SSH to try to get Raspbian going on this Raspberry PI 4, 4G
of RAM.
It is running Buster.
I am using SSH to get into it.
So I did apt-get update first.
Then I did apt-get install mate-desktop
that seemed to go fine
Then I did
apt-get install gnome-orca
That too seemed to go fine.
I still don't know if it boots to a desktop.
I try the user name and password with no sound and then try calling up
Orca in what might be the desktop, but no sound.
In the SSH session, I can get audio with both
speaker-test -c 2
and Pranav suggested I try:
Spd-say "hello"
So I know that I can get audio from the speaker jack.
But normally when Orca is working, I can go into a terminal and do:
espeak "hello"
and it comes back with hello.
This normally works in an SSH session, but it does not, and this is the
error I get:
There may be a little at the top, but it ran off the screen, and I will
paste the results below, and I am wondering if this is why Orca isn't
talking...
