Possibly related, but probably not...
I can neither confirm nor deny the issue described in the referenced message, as for me, the Orca key doesn't work at all. I assume that's because I am on a machine that has neither a caps lock nor an insert key. Both keystrokes are emulated by other combinations. It's actually a Chromebook; as of the past year ChromeOS has provided native Linux app support ("crostini" project). I'm extremely pleased to see that Orca works at allk in this environment! But in order to use any key commands, I need to customize them in Orca. Probably there is some magic I could perform with xmodmap to convince Orca that my "Search" or "Assistant" key is a valid replacement for caps lock or insert. I did try to customize the "Assistant" key from within ChromeOS to play the role of caps lock, but it doens't quite work in Orca - except for a small number of commands that for some reason do work.
I guess now that I'm becoming more familiar with Orca source code I could look into workarounds, but if anyone has any ideas for me, I'm all ears. Of course, then I'll get the chance to see if the bug originally discussed here applies to me too.
