[orca-list] at-spi-dbus not launching

I'm befuddled trying to get Orca going on a new machine. The error I get
is:

dbind-ERROR AT-SPI: Couldn't connect to accessibility
bus. Is at-spi-bus-launcher running

I have no clue how to chase this down, so all suggestions much
appreciated.
