Re: [orca-list] Anyone figured out Discord under Orca?

Hello,

ah, I had Skype set up with the flag attached to the app, so I completely forgot that it's necessary to add it. :)

Also, for the edit field, I just had a situation, where the input field was totally inresponsive and I was unable to send a reply. Turning style to no-style in View menu helped, and the accessibility of the field has even improved.

I'll see for how long. :D

As for the focus switching, that's interesting, I didn't register that here. Does it happen on specific places, or rather randomly?

Best regards

Thanks. Couple pointers:

1. The app is indeed "accessible," as it were. It is Electron, so be sure you have the correct environment variables and flags. That said, it's worse than Firefox because it's Chromium and old Electron, so there's that.

2. Thanks for the Ctrl-A, type tip. I'll try that to clear message field contents.

3. My focus mode issue isn't the switch. It's that Orca-a announces nothing at all. I've never encountered this behavior anywhere else.

4. Agreed on the dialogs, but that definitely isn't an issue here. Modals capturing key input is one of those gotchas I look for regularly, and that isn't happening in this case.

Thanks again.

Hello,

one my friend told me, that a lot of blind people moved from Skype to Discord recently, and as he did as well, I decided to make an account too to stay in contact with him and as a plus discover the place a bit, as there could be quite interesting communities.

I personally found their app completely inaccessible, I didn't even find that they're using Electron. :)

The only thing I noticed was my computer fan preparing to start up a flight, so I have removed the thing as soon as I verified, that it's completely unusable.

The web is another story. There are few annoying places, like the date picker on the registration site, it took me quite a lot of time to trick it just to realize, that I entered wrong numbers there (of course after submitting the form). XD

But other than that, it seems quite accessible to me. Although all I did yet was sending few direct messages and exploring the settings, so this may very well be a premature assumption.

As for the unability to type in edit field, this of course may not necessarily need to be your case, but I found out, that Orca has quite hard times when dealing with overlapping objects. The problem is, that it displays both areas without any indices, that they're overlapping. The only thing as a consequence is, that overlapped elements act strangely i.e. it's not possible to activate them or write to them.

A typical case where this happened to me was, when I wanted to send my friend a friend request. The field was actually there, but it was overlapped by dialog encouraging me to create my first discord server. Which however was on the top of the site, whereas the field was near the bottom, so I didn't notice it at all, until I noticed that writing doesn't work and started searching why. I needed to close the dialog with according button, after that, the field worked again.

As for the prefixes and suffixes in chat field, yes, it happens to me too. It's best to press ctrl+A and start writing, that worked for me even if backspace didn't.

The responsivity of the field varies with every launch, sometimes it's quite accessible and I can do even more complicated operations in it, sometimes navigation is completely without feedback as well as deletion, so I have to type the whole message at once. This is not a Discord specific issue, a very similar behavior can be seen in Facebook's web Messenger or Skype's web app. I don't know whose fault it is, as Messenger for example doesn't work correctly even on Windows when it comes to this edit field and Skype was also successful in doing strange things in recent releases, although the problems werre possibly lowered as Freedom scientific takes special care of the Skype app.

And as for switching between browsing and focus mode, well, it may be just me, but I feel like Orca does this all the time, on all pages. :)

Like.. yes, it sometimes announces the change, but many times I end up surprised, why I can't move just to find out, that I'm in focus mode.

I don't like auto modes switching, it would be best, if it was possible to completely turn this off. But as for now, yes, it happens quite suddenly, sometimes without an information, not just on Discord.

Best regards
